Cruise Moab 2026

This is my first feeble attempt at one of the trip recaps. Let me know if I should change things for the next one! I rounded up photos from everyone I could, so there's no real order to some of this.

April 14-18, 2026: Several club members made the trip out to Moab this year for the annual TLCA "Cruise Moab" event. We set out from Reno/Carson city on Tuesday morning at a leisurely 0900, as our plan was to spend the night in Salt Lake. Lee and Sam met Stan and I at the Love's Truck Stop in Fernley, NV and we headed East. We'd meet up with Pierre in Winnemucca and Garrett in Wendover.

First non-fuel-related stop along the way that was worthy of a photo was the Bonneville Salt Flats!

Pierre and Lee stopped for a photo. Probably could be a magazine cover!

I didn't stop at the Salt Flats, as my trusty tow-rig was in its natural habitat refueling. After this trip, the truck (2025 Tundra) just sorta pulls itself into a Maverik gas station for a drink. 8.0 MPG meant I was doing my part to stimulate the economy. I will say that 2 turbos and a 10 speed will flatten any hill you point it at. Stan enjoyed the massaging seats as he iced his knee that he decided to tear up and need surgery on the day before we left. The solar on the 80 meant the Starlink was on the whole way too, so we were able to scour the internet for good deals on junk we didn't need as we approached Salt Lake. Sadly we didn't find anything we really couldn't live without.

We made another stop along the way at the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum.

I did my best to describe the vehicles in the Museum to the group, but didn't do it justice. This one was restored by my friend Will Carroll and is perfect. We should plan another club pilgrimage to the LCHM and have Kurt give us a guided tour. He's forgotten more about Cruisers than most will ever know.

After we hit the Museum, we ran over to see the boys at Cruiser Outfitters for some last-minute parts and headed South.

As usual, Kurts team were top-notch!

Once we got to Moab, we enjoyed a couple days of trail-running and hanging out with friends from across the industry.

Lee's 80 making short work of a little rock ledge. That is definitely NOT a stinger missile case on the roof, in case you were wondering.

The Black Hole on the same ledge. Disregard all that popping/clicking. Not sure what it is...
Played in the sand dunes a bit too! More fun than it should be in a big 80 series

Pierre had a shock absorber failure, but some overnight parts from Cruiser Outfitters got him back in action without too much fuss. Great having such passionate friends as Kurt and crew that can help out in a pinch. As Pierre learned, it's hard to find parts for an imported European model 78 series Troopy in Moab parts stores. Cruiser Outfitters was able to supply OEM Toyota shocks and bushings and get them a ride to Moab from Salt Lake with only a couple text messages.

Before some of us had to leave, we all got together for some dinner and a drink or 3 at the Moab Brewery. From Left to Right: Brad (Garret's buddy from CA), Garrett, Sam (Lee's buddy from TN), Lee, Ryan, Stan, Pierre

We should plan better next time, and do some more challenging trails- and/or jump on the San Rafael Swell overnigher with Kurt. I should have driven my 80 rather than trailering it, but I needed the safety net of the trailer so I could get home and jump on a plane for work. All said, it was a great trip with some great people, and I'm already looking forward to next year. Next year will be the 30th annual Cruise Moab I believe, so we should make an appearance!
