A Very Barney Riley Adventure

Battleborn Cruisers heads south to visit the Carson River Hotsprings.

We got an early start and met up at the Golden Gate Petrolium station in Gardnerville. We made a sizable dent in their fuel reserves, topped off our coffee, and headed for the trailhead. Barney Riley is fun area to explore with alpine views, beautiful valleys and meadows, a water crossing for the brave or foolish, and of course the hotsprings. We weren't there for the hotsprings and water crossings in the spring are extremely dangerous. Our objective on this trip was trail riding and attempting to link the eastern trail to the western trail to complete a drive-thru trail rather than a there and back again experience. Mission accomplished!

Our lunch break was at an old ranching homestead that is still mostly intact. The 1800s stone foundation is very solid and it was obvious that the structure was used into the 20th century.

Repairs complete, food devoured, we continued our adventure.

Our next stop was the south bank of the East Carson River across from "the hot tub."

We dipped our toes in the cool water and spent some time just enjoying the weather and the fellowship.

Refreshed and ready to go! We headed out to link the east and west trails.

The vistas are stunning here and the day was pretty clear. The area deserves a night or three to truly explore and take it all in.
