About the Event

Trailboss: Tony

What: Q4 Overnight Run

When: Friday, October 7 @10AM (departing Cedarville) - Sunday, October 9 @10AM (departing for home)

Where: Black Rock Desert

Meet Up 1: Caravan from Maverik Adventure's First Stop, 10495 Stead Blvd, Reno, NV 89506

on Thursday, October 6. Some of us are departing Thursday and camping at Stough Reservoir Campground just west of Cedarville. This will leave us more rested and ready for the trail on Friday but this is a new campsite for us, so no promises on quality or availability.

Meet Up 2: Rabbit Traxx Truck Stop Mini-Mart, 580 Patterson St, Cedarville, CA 96104 on Friday, October 7.

Travel Time: About 3.5 hours from South Reno to Cedarville.

Trailhead: We hit dirt at 41.55760, -119.99915 where Hwy 299 turns into country road 8A. This road leads to Masacre range to the trail proper begins to Upper High Rock.

Campsite: We plan to camp around High Rock Lake (41.30136, -119.29019)

What to Bring: GAS, Camera, GAS, Cool weather gear (layers), GAS, water, GAS, food, GAS, camping gear, GAS, recovery gear, GAS, HAM radio.... and GAS!

Frequencies: 146.460 alt 146.052 - I highly recommend an installed mobile 2m ham radio for this trip. Handhelds just don't have the power and range if we get spread out or separated. Do this even if you do not have your license yet. At the very least you can listen in to the trial team's conversations and anyone can use ham in an emergency. I also recommend a Garmin InReach for emergency communications.

Program the Black Rock Desert repeaters into your radio before you go. You'll need a dual-band (2m/70cm) or 2nd radio to hit the main repeater on 440.175.

Details

This is a basecamp-style outing. We will set up camp near High Rock Lake for two days and adventure the surrounding trails including Soldier Meadow and High Rock Canyon. Some members of Toyotally Awesome Cruisers may join us for this adventure.

Fuel pumps are only available at the start and end of the trip, so you'll need to bring what you think you'll need. Those who have larger vehicles and can carry a few extra cans should do so to help others out in a pinch.
